Why Canine Inspectors?

Why Canine Inspectors?

Canines, or specially trained dogs, are used for bed bug inspections due to their remarkable olfactory (sense of smell) capabilities. Bed bugs emit pheromones and other volatile chemicals, which dogs are highly sensitive to and can detect even in very small quantities.
  • There are several reasons why canines are preferred for bed bug inspections:

Accuracy: Dogs have an exceptional ability to detect scents, even in complex environments. Trained bed bug detection dogs can locate infestations with a high level of accuracy, often pinpointing the exact location of bed bugs, including eggs and nymphs, which might be difficult for humans to identify visually.

Efficiency: Bed bug infestations can be challenging to detect, especially in large or cluttered spaces. Dogs can cover areas more quickly and efficiently than human inspectors, reducing the time and effort required for inspections.

Non-Invasive: Canine inspections are non-intrusive and do not require moving furniture or disturbing living spaces. This can be particularly valuable in sensitive environments like hotels, where minimizing disruptions is important.

  • Early Detection: Dogs can detect infestations at an earlier stage than visual inspections. This early detection can help prevent the spread of the infestation and potentially reduce the overall cost of treatment.

Accessibility: Dogs can reach areas that might be difficult for human inspectors to access, such as cracks, crevices, and tight spaces.

Reliability: When properly trained and maintained, detection dogs consistently provide accurate results, reducing the chances of false negatives or positives that can occur with other detection methods.

Our dogs are trained to detect bed bugs and are far more accurate than human-eye test. They can inspect a room in minutes with visual confirmation from their handler. We are certified through the Wisconsin Pest Control Association and the National Entomology Scent Detection Canine Association.
